Do I need a curved screen and will it make the picture better?

A curved screen will not improve your projected image or brightness. However, a curved screen will help correct distortion caused from an anamorphic lens.

Curved screens are more-so intended for higher gain screens to help focus more light back to the center of the audience and help reduce hot-spotting.

A curved screen can also help keep light off the side walls in your theater and help draw you more into the movie by surrounding the movie around you.

Having said all that, once you have experienced watching a movie with a curved screen, you will find it slightly disappointing going back to a flat screen. If your budget can afford it, a curved screen does add to the enveloping experience and if you choose the right one...they look great.
